What makes a good combi boiler?

A good combi boiler is one that meets the specific needs of your household and property.

Choose the wrong size combi boiler and you will end up spending too much on your heating and hot water. Or you may not be delivered with the levels of hot water you need.

We have considered the following factors when looking at the best combi boiler: price, warranty, design, material quality, flow rate, customer feedback, customer service, awards and accolades.

One of the main factors when considering a combi boiler is efficiency. However, we look at efficiency over time, and this means that aluminium just doesn’t always cut it. Stainless steel heat exchangers are much more robust and won’t corrode like aluminium.

This is a wide range and is based on the boiler only. The average boiler costs approximately £1,300. Including installation, a boiler will cost around £2,700.

Many things can affect this cost. For example, if you want to move the boiler. Or if you need tanks removed from your loft or airing cupboard. Other costs include any new radiators, thermostatic radiator valves and required filters.

This means that the cold water pressure limits the amount of hot water that can be produced. the power of a boiler will also limit the hot water. This is because the boiler can only heat a certain amount of water every minute.

If you have high hot-water requirements, then you could consider a storage combi boiler. These have hot water tanks built-in and are a good step before looking at full system boilers. These require hot water tanks.
