Oil Boiler Tank

There are three generic types of oil storage tanks:

Single Skin: which may be installed in a reinforced concrete or masonry bund.
Double Skin: predominantly commercial underground applications (USTs).
Integrally Bunded: above ground and within buildings.

Oil storage tanks are made of steel or polyethylene and can be supplied in a range of shapes and sizes to suit the site requirements. For most domestic homes tanks are chosen between 1000-2500L ideally fitted with device that warns of low levels and can be filled before they run out of oil especially in cold periods. The investment required in these tanks are from £1400 plus installed for smaller tanks close to your property on a stable base.

When siting these tanks it is important that the OFTEC regulations are followed for safety and environmental reasons

Oil Boiler Costs

Your total investment in a quality oil boiler including a new tank installation is likely to cost between £4000-£8000 making oil boiler installations the most expensive option available. However, heating oil is cheaper to run than LPG as a fuel source.

If you are running an old oil boiler and paying around 40p per litre (as of 2017) and spending £1200 on your total oil spend switching to a new A rated 90%+ efficient condensing oil boiler could save 30-40% on your annual oil bill.
