About Worcester Bosch

Worcester Bosch was founded in 1962 in Worcester, England by Cecil Duckworth as Worcester Engineering Co Ltd. In 1992, they were acquired by Robert Bosch GmbH and continue to be a part of this group.

Based in Warndon, Worcestershire, Worcester Bosch manufactures all of its gas boilers for the UK market at this site. Whilst the company manufactures its oil boilers at a further site in Clay Cross, Derbyshire.

Worcester Bosch’s product range includes gas and oil boilers, hot water cylinders, heat pumps, and solar water heating systems.

Worcester Bosch is the UK market leader in domestic boilers, recipients of Which? Best Buy awards for the Greenstar gas boiler range for the past 11 years and was the only brand to be awarded a Which? Best Buy award for oil boilers in the 2020 Which? Report.

In addition to this, they are the current holders of a Royal Warrant for supplying boilers to the Sandringham Estate, have recently been named as the UK’s Best Domestic Boiler Manufacturer in Build Magazine’s 2020 Home and Garden Awards, and was ranked as one of the top recommended brands by YouGov in the UK Domestic Appliance sector for 2020.

Worcester Bosch boilers – a summary

  • Amongst the best build quality of any boiler range currently available in the UK
Backed up by the engineering strength of the Bosch brand, Worcester Bosch has long been known for its build quality and this continues across the new range.
  • Warranty – 5 years as standard
Worcester Bosch’s guarantee is comprehensive and covers replacement parts, callout and labour costs. However, this is only 5 years as standard. To qualify for anything longer than this, you must buy the additional guarantee and the boiler must be installed by a Worcester Bosch-trained installer.
  • Boilers in the range feature manual override switches
This will be a saviour on cold winter nights if the thermostat fails.
  • Simple boiler controls across the range with clear information displays
There is nothing complicated about the controls on any of the boilers in the Worcester Bosch range, and everything is clearly presented and easy to find.
  • Low risk of the condensate pipe freezing in severe weather conditions
Though a simple fix, a frozen condensate pipe can be frustrating and lead to temporary heating and hot water outages. Thankfully though, the Worcester Bosch range features condensate pipes that are resistant to freezing.
  • Compatible with a wide range of controls
Allowing for increased energy efficiency and smarter operation, the Worcester Bosch range is compatible with a wide range of thermostats and smart heating controls.
  • Integrated low-energy pumps
An integrated low-energy pump in boilers across the range will enable you to reduce your electricity usage.
  • Included frost protection
This will reduce frost risk if installed in a garage or a loft.
  • Aluminium heat exchanger
Not as robust as a stainless steel heat exchanger with potential efficiency drops of 10% or more over a 10-year period.

Frequently asked questions about Worcester Bosch

Worcester Bosch offers a comprehensive range of combi boilers, system boilers and conventional boilers for domestic use. Worcester Bosch’s domestic boiler range is available for gas and oil fuel types.

Worcester Bosch is renowned for its high-quality products and they are arguably the best know boiler in the UK.

Countless individuals throughout the UK depend on Worcester Bosch for their heating and hot water needs. According to the comprehensive Which? annual report, based on customer satisfaction, product quality, and after-sales service, Worcester Bosch stands as one of the market’s most dependable boiler brand.

Worcester Bosch state; “A new boiler can last around 10-15 years, so it’s important to find the right one to suit you and your lifestyle” on their website. A well-serviced boiler boiler should last 10-15 years as Worcester Bosch state – some may last even longer.

It’s worth noting, however, that a boiler’s efficiency can drop over time. Worcester Bosch uses an aluminium heat exchanger which is shown to lose as much as 10% of its efficiency over a 10-year period due to corrosion and wear. Other brands, such as Viessmann, use a stainless steel exchanger.

Yes, every model in the current range is 20% hydrogen-ready. This means that if a hydrogen and natural gas blend becomes available in the UK, current models will be able to switch over.

Yes. But, you will need a Worcester Bosch EasyControl adapter for your boiler and a 230v room thermostat.

The UK headquarters of the company is situated in Worcester, where it houses the primary operations, including the manufacturing of gas boilers. Additionally, there is another facility in Clay Cross, Derbyshire, dedicated to the production of oil boilers.

Yes. But, like all boiler brands, just be aware that different models are different sizes and so may need larger cupboards. Large storage combi boilers, like the Viessmann 222-F, will not fit into a standard-sized cupboard.

Worcester Bosch doesn’t install boilers directly. Instead, Gas Safe engineers install them all over the UK. Boilerhut can, and have installed Worcester Bosch boiler across the UK since 2013, however, we prefer the Viessmann brand in many situations due to their quality.

If Boilerhut installed your boiler, please call us first: 029 2009 8087

If someone else installed your boiler, please call them directly, or Worcester Bosch on: 0330 123 9559.

If you have an external filling loop you will be able to find this as there will be two taps close to each other. They may, or may not be connected with a flexible metal hose. Once connected, open both taps and allow the system to fill up to approximately 1 bar. If you don’t have a hose connection you may need a plumber to come round to cut and fit one for you.

If you have a keyed filling loop, locate the black port on the front of the boiler. Insert the key and fill until the system is at about 1 bar. Remember to close the valve afterwards.

Lastly, if you have a keyless internal filling loop you will see a blue leaver on a fitting under the bottom of your boiler. Pull the lever down until the system is filled to about 1 bar and then push it back into place.

NOTE: Don’t overfill your system.

Nest thermostats are designed to work with a wide range of heating systems, including various types of boilers. Given that Worcester Bosch offers boilers that run on gas, propane (LPG), and oil, there is a good chance that a Nest thermostat will be compatible with your Worcester Bosch heating system.

However, please be aware that the Nest system, generally, does not follow a boilers warranty, as they’re a separate company. It’s also worth noting that if for any reason the Nest stopped working you could be left without heating.

At Boilerhut we no longer fit or recommend Nest for this reason as their customer service tends to be slow and it’s not ideal for cold wintery nights. We recommend the Vitotrol 100-E for Viessmann boilers or the Tado thermostat if you want to use smart TRVs.

When it comes to any boiler, a broken or faulty heat exchanger can mean the end for your boiler. In general, the cost of a new part of this size and importance could be anywhere from £500 to £1,200, not including labour – it all depends on the model and age of the boiler.

If your boiler has a broken or faulty heat exchanger it may be worth looking at replacing the whole boiler. When a heat exchanger goes it tends to be later in the life of a boiler meaning it’s probably out of warranty. So, the question you need to consider is if paying up to £1,200 is worth it. Instead, you could buy and install a new boiler for less than £3,000 (e.g. a combi to combi swap – get your free quote >) and get a 10 or 12-year warranty (the Viessmann 100-W has a 12-year warranty when installed by Boilerhut) giving you peace of mind.
