The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 2000 30kW combi boiler is a good boiler. It has a high energy efficiency rating meaning your gas bills stay low. As a UK brand, parts are widely available. Worcester Bosch is a trusted name in the industry and provides a decent warranty for peace of mind.

Worcester Bosch is a household name, and for good reason. The Greenstar range has won the coveted Which? Best Buy award for several years. Worcester Bosch has developed a reputation as a reliable boiler brand across the UK over the last few decades. The company has an ‘Excellent’ rating on Trustpilot, based on real reviews.

There are, of course, some negatives. A lot of components are made by third parties rather than in-house. This adds complexity to supply chain and design considerations. In addition, some internal parts are plastic or composite which could easily be brass or copper. Other manufacturers will use the highest-quality parts available. The issue with plastic parts is that they are of a lower quality than brass parts and are more prone to perishing.

Aluminium heat exchanger

As with the whole Worcester Bosch boiler range, the Greenstar 2000 uses an aluminium heat exchanger. This means that the 94% energy efficiency won’t last forever.

This is because aluminium is prone to corrosion. Over time magnetite sludge and other chemicals decrease its efficiency. Stainless steel heat exchangers are less prone to corrosion and actually increase their efficiency over time.

Upgrading to this boiler with 94% efficiency saves money, but its aluminium exchanger depreciates by 10% over 10 years. So although an attractive proposition considering the longterm value is vital.

Quality 7/10

Worcester uses a variety of quality parts in their boilers. Their boilers tend to last 7-15 years, but their aluminium heat exchangers mean it needs more careful looking after than other brands.

Value 7/10

The Greenstar 2000 30kW combi boiler is good value. It’s a reasonably priced boiler for power output. However, considering the potential for issues with composite and aluminium parts rather than brass and steel means more things could go wrong than with other boilers

What’s our choice?

Although the Greenstar 2000 is a great boiler, for roughly the same price, you can get a Viessmann Vitodens 050 combi boiler. These are superior boilers with stainless steel heat exchangers ensuring continued high performance.

The 050-W is 92% efficient, obviously less than the Greenstar 2000, but as it has a stainless steel heat exchanger, the boiler will gain efficiency over the first few years of use, not drop 10%.
