The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 is an industry-leading addition to Worcester Bosch’s extensive catalogue of boiler models. It is popular because of its compact size and modern design, though it is much more than an aesthetic choice.
Awarded Which? Best Buy status in 2020
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 received an excellent rating from Which? and was awarded Which Best Buy status in 2020
Price
The price of the Greenstar 8000 should be immediately noted. With a starting installation price of £2900 (inc. VAT), it is one of the more expensive boilers in the Worcester Bosch range and does come at a higher price point than similar boilers from competitors.
Efficiency
With the ability to achieve efficiency levels of up to 94% and achieving an ErP A-rating for heating and hot water, the Greenstar 8000 is a highly efficient boiler and will go a long way in assisting you to save on your energy costs. This is especially true when compared to the older non-condensing boilers which people are still utilising in their homes across the UK.
Aluminium heat exchanger
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 comes equipped with an aluminium heat exchanger. Whilst this will offer great efficiency when the boiler is first installed, aluminium heat exchangers are not as good at retaining efficiency as stainless steel heat exchangers are. This is a negative for this boiler, as aluminium is prone to rust and will corrode over time. Whilst these issues will be covered as part of the warranty, once out of warranty the repair costs for this will be costly.
Warranty period
On the subject of the warranty, the Greenstar 8000 comes with a warranty of up to 12 years. However, this is only when the boiler is installed by a Worcester Accredited Installer.
Available in five outputs
Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 comes in 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 kW models.
Equipped with innovative technology and optimised heat and hot water output
As well as being one of the quietest boilers on the market, engineered to run virtually silently no matter the task. The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 is accompanied by wall-mounted control panels featuring an ambient LCD colour display panel that is intuitive to use and makes the control of your home heating as simple as using your smartphone.
The boiler also has an intelligent filling system which results in optimum pressure being maintained continuously.
Control your boiler remotely
You can also benefit from wireless connectivity technology that allows for smart control of the boiler system from your tablet or smartphone. Worcester Bosch’s EasyControl smart heating operating solution can be accessed by downloading the app. Your installer can advise you on setting up the system so you can control your heating on your way home from work or wherever you have internet access.
This can mean lower bills as you can time your hot water and heating to perfection.
Not all components are manufactured in-house
Another negative is the fact that not all of the components are manufactured in-house. Whilst this boiler is assembled in Worcester, it is made up of many components from third party companies. This is a negative as there are equivalent boilers at a similar price point that utilise components that are all made in-house. The benefit from these competitors is that their components are designed to work efficiently with each other.
Wide availability of parts
Because the boiler is assembled in the UK and Worcester Bosch is one of the UK’s leading boiler manufacturers, parts are widely available. If you need a replacement item you can find spare parts at Screwfix, Plumbase and other plumbing merchants both in-store and online.
Plastic parts
With that said, a downside to the Greenstar 8000 is that many of the parts utilised within it are made from plastic and are more prone to perishing than boilers containing higher quality brass parts.
Verdict and Final Thoughts:
Overall Rating: 7/10
Cost-Effectiveness: 7/10
Energy Efficiency: 9/10
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 is a quality boiler from a well-known manufacturer in the UK. It is let down by using an aluminium heat exchanger and plastic parts.
With a 12 year warranty when installed by a Worcester Bosch Accredited Installer, these things won’t be an issue for the homeowner whilst the guarantee is still valid. However, it does mean that the boiler has a 12-year service life before it starts to prove costly. And of course, that’s if you get it installed by an accredited installer.
If you don’t, you will only get a 5-year guarantee, which doesn’t make the boiler a good buy for the price.
For a cost starting from £2900 (inc. VAT) installed, you will be getting a boiler from a renowned brand that is equipped with futureproof technology. It is advised that you get this boiler installed by a Worcester Bosch Accredited Installer though.
