Our thoughts:
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life has a fantastic design and high energy efficiency rating for such a powerful boiler. This is great news for homeowners looking to reduce household overheads and become more environmentally friendly.
As a UK brand, parts are widely available, and Worcester Bosch is a trusted name in boiler manufacturing. The company offers a long warranty period for new purchases if installed by an accredited engineer.
This range comes in four sizes which will suit almost every large household.
Who is Worcester Bosch?
If you know anything about boilers – you have almost certainly heard of Worcester Bosch. They have been producing boilers for decades.
Worcester Bosch has developed a reputation as a reliable manufacturer over the years. However, in recent years, their boilers have slipped behind the competition and this is, unfortunately, the case with this Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life.
Don’t get us wrong, this is a great boiler but there are a few points, which we will discuss below, which let this boiler down.
Commitment to energy efficiency
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life is a combi boiler, so it doesn’t need a water tank which reduces the space needed for an efficient heating system. It uses a heat exchanger to near-instantly heat water when required.
This Greenstar 8000 is 93% energy efficient and has an ErP ‘A’ rating, which means it is a great choice for those looking to keep household bills low and reduce carbon emissions when first installed.
The efficiency won’t last though
Unfortunately, this efficiency won’t last forever though. As the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life uses an aluminium heat exchanger, the efficiency will deteriorate the more that the boiler is used. This is because aluminium is prone to corrosion and this equals a drop in efficiency.
It should be noted that the heat exchanger is covered by the warranty but once out of warranty the repair costs for this will be costly.
Created with design in mind
As this is a wall-mounted boiler, many homeowners will be concerned about how it will look once installed. This is a really modern, white design with a sleek control panel and rounded edges. It could be installed on your bathroom and kitchen wall and not look out of place. It is also a quiet model, so you won’t be disturbed by sound.
You can also use wireless or smart settings to control the boiler – with the latter you can control the heating from an Android or iOs-compatible device.
Assembled in the UK
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life is assembled in the Worcester Bosch factory in Worcester, UK along with the other models in the Greenstar range. However, many of the parts used in the boiler are manufactured elsewhere by third party companies. The issue with this is they aren’t optimised to work together like the parts produced in-house by competitors for their boilers.
Plastic parts
Another downside to the Greenstar 8000 Life is that many of the parts utilised within it are made from plastic and are more prone to perishing than boilers containing higher quality brass parts.
Wide availability of parts
As the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life boiler is assembled in the UK, the parts are widely available at least. If you need a replacement item you can find spare parts at Screwfix, Plumbase and other plumbing merchants both in-store and online.
