Our thoughts:
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi Compact Gas Boiler is perfect for those looking for a boiler that can be enclosed in a small space within your home, it’s an ideal boiler for apartments with limited space. It is a powerful boiler for its size and provides energy-efficient heating and hot water all year round.
This boiler is most suitable for smaller homes with up to three bedrooms and one bathroom.
A trusted brand
Worcester Bosch is one of the most widely-recognised names in boiler manufacturing. Their Greenstar range has won the coveted Which? Best Buy award for several years. They have developed a reputation as a reliable and responsive boiler manufacturer in the UK.
Energy efficiency at its core
Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi Compact range includes three models – 28, 32 and 36 kW.
All three boiler models have the highest energy efficiency rating for boilers in their class. The efficiency of the boilers can be improved when integrated with the smart thermostat technology used in the EasyControl system. The Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi Compact has been engineered with low energy consumption as a core component of its design.
Unfortunately, though, this efficiency won’t last forever. Whilst you will be able to benefit from excellent energy efficiency for a while, the components used within this boiler means they will be greatly affected after prolonged use. The biggest reason for this is because of the aluminium heat exchanger.
Aluminium heat exchanger
An aluminium heat exchanger will offer great efficiency when the boiler is first installed. However, after a few years aluminium will start to corrode and corrosion equals a drop in efficiency. So whilst this boiler offers up to 94% efficiency from installation, this won’t last forever.
It should be noted that the heat exchanger is covered by the guarantee but once out of warranty the repair costs for this will be costly.
Frost protection
A benefit to this boiler though is reliable frost protection. Issues in cold weather are one of the most common afflictions that households experience and calling for an emergency engineer to help can be expensive. The CDi range has been designed to release condensed flue gasses in bursts which reduces the risk of blockages due to freezing on outside pipes.
Multiple control options
With the CDi models, you can choose to use the standard control panel, which is easy to use, or upgrade to a smart heating system that is compatible with both Android and iOs operating system devices.
Assembled in the UK
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi Compact is assembled in the Worcester Bosch factory located in Worcester, UK. Whilst it is assembled in Worcester, it is made up of many components from third party companies. This is a negative as there are equivalent boilers at a similar price point that utilise components that are all made in-house. The benefit from these competitors is that their components are designed to work efficiently with each other.
Wide availability of parts
The parts for this boiler are widely available though. If you need a replacement item you can find spare parts at Screwfix, Plumbase and other plumbing merchants both in-store and online.
Plastic parts
With that said, a downside to the Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi Compact Gas Boiler is that many of the parts utilised within it are made from plastic and are more prone to perishing than boilers containing higher quality brass parts.
