Alpha’s thermoplastic moulded stainless steel heat exchanger is their latest version. It is moulded inside thermoplastic, giving an improvement in efficiency and lighter design.

A major advantage of Alpha’s heat exchanger is durability and longevity. Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion and wear. This is especially true compared to aluminium. This means your boiler is likely to last longer than competitors without stainless steel.

These components are more expensive to design and manufacture, but we think it is worth it, as does Alpha. Overall, we would always choose a stainless steel heat exchanger over an aluminium one.

Easy operation and installation

The controls are very easy to understand and use. The onboard screen allows quick access to boiler information and diagnosis. The E-Tec Plus 28kW also has an integrated filler loop, meaning there is no additional loop to install to find if the pressure drops.

Installation is also relatively easy for a heating engineer. The boiler is only 31.2kg empty, and with a combined condensate and pressure release valve, there are fewer parts to install.

Weather compensation

The Weather Compensation Probe is a device designed to enhance your boiler’s efficiency. It does so by adjusting the boiler’s heat output based on the temperature outside. If you want to ensure Boiler Plus compliance, you should fit the probe with a room thermostat.

Warranty

The E-Tec Plus’ 10-year warranty is very good for a mid-tier boiler. There is also the possibility to upgrade this to 13 years when installed with additional approved components.

The Alpha E-Tec Plus 28 NX combi boiler is a great boiler. We like their stainless steel heat exchangers and they have great customer service.

Alpha is currently our second most installed boiler brand. They are great boilers for their price. They might lack some features that more premium brands, like Viessmann, have, but you are paying slightly less as a result.

With their compatibility with OpenTherm we think they will be a great addition to your home. Saving you money on your heating bills compared to older boilers.

Performance 8/10

If you are looking to upgrade from an older boiler, then you should definitely consider investing in a high-efficiency boiler with a stainless steel heat exchanger. This combi boiler boasts an impressive 94% efficiency rate, which means it can potentially save you a lot of money in the long run.

What’s more, the stainless steel heat exchanger of this E-Tec Plus 28 NX is designed to remain at that high level of efficiency for over 10 years. This is a significant advantage over boilers that use aluminium heat exchangers, which can lose up to 10% of their efficiency over the same period. So, if you want to ensure maximum efficiency and cost savings for your home heating system, it’s definitely worth choosing a boiler with a stainless steel heat exchanger.

Alpha uses a mixture of materials in their boilers. This includes brass and copper as well as composites and plastics. Their heat exchanger is a huge benefit over a lot of other boiler models.

The Alpha E-Tec Plus 28 NX is a great value boiler. At a fraction over £900, this boiler isn’t cheap, but it’s not top-tier expensive either. Considering the heat exchanger, the new boiler cost is very good especially compared to similar boilers from Worcester Bosch, for example.
