The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life 50kW is perfect for medium to large homes. The power outputs range from 30kW to 50kW. There are options for many properties because there is a range of powers.

Worcester Bosch has a very good reputation in the UK and is the largest manufacturer of boilers. They are assembled in Worcester.

Price

Starting at £2,994 (average price from five plumbers merchants in February 2024), the Greenstar 8000 Life isn’t cheap. It’s also more expensive than some competitor models of similar of better specification. It’s also £500 more than the 45kW version and £1,000 more than the 40kW version.

The 8000 Life is slightly cheaper than it’s 8000 Style bigger brother. Also, the Greenstar 4000 combi boiler range is one of Worceter’s best-selling models.

Efficiency

Able to hit 94% efficiency and achieve an A rating for heating and hot water, the Greenstar 8000 Life range is an efficient boiler. It will help you save money, especially if upgrading from an older non-condensing boiler. It can also modulate at 1:10, meaning that when full power isn’t required, it can use a 10th of normal full power.

Aluminium heat exchanger

The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life comes equipped with an aluminium heat exchanger. As discussed in this guide, aluminium is a good material but not as good as stainless steel. Aluminium tends to corrode more quickly and loses 10% efficiency over 10 years. This equates to money spent on gas or LPG.

The 8000 has up to 12 years of warranty coverage. But, there will be strict conditions. And if it breaks down outside the 12 years, the cost to replace parts will be high.

The 12-year warranty is only offered when installed by a Worcester Bosch-trained heating engineer and with specific hardware such as Worcester filters.

The Greenstar 8000 Life 50kW combi boiler is a great boiler. It’s a popular choice as it is one of their top-of-the-line boilers (apart from their 8000 Style model). It comes in a range of powers, is compact, and has a modern design. This is a good boiler. If looked after properly, it can easily last 12 or more years.

However, as with all Worcester Bosch boilers, the 8000 Life 50kW has an aluminium heat exchanger. This means we don’t often recommend them to customers. The reason for this is that even if the boiler is looked after properly, it can still lose 10% efficiency over 10 years.

This is money spent on gas bills. Money that is increasing every year due to efficiency loss. You can read more about this here >

Performance 8/10

At 94% efficiency, this boiler will save people money when upgrading from older boilers. However, as already discussed, this won’t last, and aluminium exchangers can lose 10% efficiency over 10 years.

Quality 8/10

Worcester Bosch uses a mixture of brass, copper and plastic parts in their boilers. If well looked after, they should last. But we tend to recommend boilers with a wider range of premium components.

Value 6/10

The Worcester Bosch 8000 Life 50kW combi boiler is expensive. When compared to other brands’ models with similar features, there are better boilers for about the same or slightly less money. For example, the Viessmann 050-W or 100-W are both better boilers. This powerful boiler is £1,000 more than a boiler that is 10kW less but provides the same heating output.
